About the role

We're looking for a Founding Software Engineer to help build the core systems and infrastructure that power Arbor's products.

This role focuses on backend infrastructure, low-latency serving systems, experimentation platforms, measurement systems, and large-scale data infrastructure with direct impact on product performance and business outcomes.

We're looking for an engineer with strong technical foundations, sound engineering judgment, and a track record of building reliable production systems. The ideal candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and is excited about owning meaningful parts of the product and platform from the ground up.

We value strong engineering fundamentals, technical judgment, ownership, and the ability to build reliable production systems at scale.

What you'll work on

• Build low-latency backend systems for real-time decisioning and serving
• Develop infrastructure for targeting, pacing, allocation, and delivery systems
• Build experimentation and measurement systems including A/B testing, attribution, and incrementality
• Improve system performance across latency, reliability, throughput, and scale
• Build high-scale data pipelines for signals, reporting, and analytics
• Work across platform services, internal tools, and product-facing systems where needed
• Partner directly with founders on architecture and product direction

What we're looking for

• Strong computer science fundamentals and engineering judgment
• Strong backend development and distributed systems fundamentals
• Experience building and operating production systems end-to-end
• Strong software design, debugging, and production engineering skills
• Experience with performance optimization, latency-sensitive systems, data infrastructure, or platform engineering
• A proactive problem-solving mindset with strong ownership and accountability
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-moving startup environment
• Comfort working with ambiguity and building systems from first principles

Strongly preferred

• Experience in ads, monetization, marketplaces, recommendation systems, or other large-scale decisioning systems
• Experience with large-scale data systems including streaming, batch processing, analytics, and reporting pipelines
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and development velocity
• Experience working in early-stage startups or building 0→1 products and platforms
• Experience building systems where performance, correctness, reliability, and scale are critical

This role focuses on low-latency serving systems, backend infrastructure, experimentation platforms, measurement systems, and large-scale data infrastructure with direct impact on product performance and business outcomes.

We're looking for an engineer who can own major technical domains end-to-end, make sound architectural decisions, and help establish the engineering foundations of a high-growth company. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with practical judgment, operates effectively in ambiguous environments, and enjoys mentoring others while raising engineering quality across the organization.

What you'll work on

• Design and build low-latency systems for real-time decisioning and serving
• Own backend systems for targeting, pacing, allocation, and delivery infrastructure
• Build large-scale measurement systems for attribution, reporting, incrementality, and experimentation
• Drive platform architecture for scalability, performance, reliability, and operational excellence
• Improve latency, throughput, correctness, and developer productivity across systems
• Establish engineering patterns, practices, and technical standards across the organization
• Mentor engineers and help raise engineering quality across the team
• Partner directly with founders on architecture, hiring, and technical strategy

What we're looking for

• Strong computer science fundamentals and engineering judgment
• Deep experience building distributed systems and backend infrastructure
• Proven track record of building or scaling low-latency, high-throughput production systems
• Strong software design, debugging, and production engineering skills
• Experience with platform architecture, performance engineering, reliability, and operational excellence
• Ability to own major technical domains end-to-end and make sound architectural decisions
• Strong technical judgment and ability to navigate complex engineering tradeoffs
• Comfort operating with ambiguity and high ownership in early-stage environments
• Experience mentoring engineers and helping teams scale effectively

Strongly preferred

• Experience building monetization, ranking, auction, recommendation, or real-time decisioning systems
• Experience with large-scale data infrastructure, analytics, experimentation, or measurement systems
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and development velocity
• Experience working in early-stage startups or building 0→1 products and platforms
• Experience building systems where performance, correctness, reliability, and scale are mission-critical
